Fiber Acceptance Test Kit
23005
The unique design of the splice accommodates either 125um or 140um fiber and any size buffer up to 900um. The precision made splice holder firmly holds the pigtail in position without causing stress on the fiber. The low viscosity index matching liquid has an indefinite shelf life and allows for an easy glide of the bare fiber into the splice. Within seconds, a fiber acceptance reading can be made with an OTDR or test set. Low loss with minimum back reflection can easily be achieved for more accurate signatures. Other applications for this kit: splice training aids, bare fiber adapters, and temporary splicing.

FiberPulse OTDR
XO1
FiberPulse OTDRs send pulses down fiber optic networks from one end of the fiber, displaying a trace and reporting all detected events such as splices, connectors, macrobends and fiber ends and breaks. The total fiber length is reported along with name, location, loss and reflectance of detected events. The intuitive keypad design features integrated shortcut keys designed for quickly positioning and analysing events. Another feature of this unit is the Live Optical Signal Detect Function, which tests if the fiber is live before sending the pulse, this can effectively prevent accidental damage to the OTDR and attached communication equipment.

Launch Fiber Box
OTDR measuring devices are used in various ways in fibre optic technology. They enable extensive characterisation of existing fibre optic cabling networks. The use of launch and receive fibres is advantageous when it comes to ensuring precise results evaluations. With bidirectional backscatter measurements with launch and receive fibres, the attenuation values of the first and last plug-in connection can be determined precisely by averaging and device dead zones can be avoided. Measuring device manufacturers recommend different lengths of launch and receives fibres to avoid “phantom reflections”. These launch and receive fibres are also subject to measuring equipment monitoring and should regularly undergo revision in accordance with the OTDR measuring devices. A good measurement result depends on the state and quality of the measuring equipment used. Diamond offers various types of launch and receive fibres, one with standard telecommunications connectors and the other with an outdoor connector for harsh environments.

OTDRs
An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) tests the integrity of a fiber optic cable. Using a fiber OTDR, a technician can verify splice loss, identify length, and very easily locate faults in the cable. Another use is to verify the accurate installation of a fiber optic cable when it’s newly installed. If/when problems arise or if an issue is suspected in the future, a fiber OTDR can then compare the images from the original trace to the present state of the cable.
